Seriously – is the Huffington Post trying to become the internet version of a gossip rag? There’s already quite a lot of entertainment content – must their headlines be offensively, misleadingly sensationalistic as well?
Hint: No way in the world this was not an agreed upon plan between Pres. Obama, Secty of State Clinton, and Pres. Clinton.

Long story short, Obama sucks, says David Bromwich. To which I say, it must be great making a living pontificating about endlessly about an endlessly interesting president, while saying nothing useful…

Really – this requires no commentary. It means the world to me to have this bit of history being made.

Folks talking to folks. This wasn’t stereotyping, and I’m finding it silly and obnoxious to claim that Steele was doing so.

I’m reading this web site (thanks to Cescan Matt Osbourne on FB for the link): http://www.kff.org/healthreform/sidebyside.cfm
I wanted to give a careful look at one of the Republican options, because I want to be sure that I’m really looking at what’s being offered for solutions, rather than going along with partisan posturing. So here’s the plan I looked at: Senators Tom Coburn & Richard Burr & Representatives Paul Ryan & Devin Nunes Patients’ Choice Act of 2009 (S. 1099 and H.R. 2520)
The plan offers to provide a tax credit to Americans – about 2500 – 5100K. (For poor people at less than 200% of the poverty line, this money will be provided on a debit card.) In exchange – they will eliminate the employer incentive to insure people, reduce medicaid coverage for most people. They will allow and encourage states to set up exchanges so that people can buy private insurance, and expand health care savings accounts – especially for people with chronic illness.
There’s more (check out the link) but these were alarming enough to make me say – this is a non-starter. Some people (middle class, over the 200% poverty line mark, and yet, not well off) will not be able to save up enough for effective chronic illness care. I’m stunned that this proposal even was offered. And of course – tax credits only work if you don’t typically owe taxes at the end of the year.
I’ll look at another proposal tomorrow.. .this one gave me a headache.

Sarah Palin resigns the governorship of Alaska effective July 25 or 26 (link to follow).
There is some speculation that she does this because she wants the freedom to enrich herself and her family with her newfound fame. This fits the “Barracuda” storyline – a woman for whom the governorship was “the big times” as was her shot at the Vice Presidency.
There is, however, another storyline…the one in which the realities of raising a baby with downs syndrome sinks in, and maternal instinct kicks in. Many mothers of disabled children were dismayed at the idea that she would attempt the office of VP while having such a disabled child in her care.
The two storylines are not mutually exclusive. In either case, the nation dodged a bullet in NOT electing the McCain-Palin ticket.

I’m sorry to hear about AG Holder’s tooth. Toothache pain is miserable. I trust that AG Holder has dental coverage to not only have the tooth extracted, but the bridge put in place so his smile is retained, and his bite doesn’t get distorted as the teeth shift around the gap.
I wish I had dental coverage…
