Obama Truth Watch
This is the very crude beginnings, likely to evolve over time, of a list of “misstatements” made by the media about President-Elect (and eventually President) Obama, and the facts. I’m going to keep a list of these as I become aware of them, and hope that others chime in. I’m doing this because I have prided myself on being one of those proverbial “late-deciding, low-information” voters who “rely upon the mainstream media” for information – thereby likely being misinformed. I was an EARLY Obama supporter, but I did all I could to retain that outlook so I could see how things looked from the other side. I notice that well-informed folks in the Obama camp frequently failed to recognize how distant their perceptions were from the perceptions of folks like me – so I’ve made it a point to try to cultivate that outlook.
Alas! One cannot follow along so closely and still remain truly “low-information”! But since I’m not truly a “political junkie” and since I am not going to become one, I still have one aspect to my personality that I think reflects the “average American voter” – namely, short memory.
For instance – I was annoyed to hear people on television saying that Obama was calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, and would therefore disappoint his followers once elected and forced to have a more reasonable plan. I listened to this in amazement, as I wondered how on earth this could be said of the man who has ALWAYS said “We need to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.”
Now, the media is running with this idea that Obama’s small donor base wasn’t really all that remarkable after all. Here’s the lie: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/11/obama-money.html
And, here’s the truth: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/study-that-hits-myth-of-o_b_147135.html
My own commentary on this issue is here:

I’ll probably create some sort of Google Docs spreadsheet, and hopefully make it available to others to add to as we go along. Anyway, as I said, this is a start.
Here’s a google doc spreadsheet. Not sure how to upload it. But if anyone would like to be a collaborator, please post here.

Came across this widget from the St. Petersburg Times, which is a great addition to the Obama Truth Watch.

A little cranky that I can’t “post” to this page. Gonna really have to reconfigure my site. Anyway, for now I’m posting this widget here, so as not to lose it:
