Obama-McCain, Round II

Published by QueenTiye at 12:43 am under Uncategorized

I called the last one a tie, and thought that a tie favored McCain, who was behind and needed to look like he was still in the game. Most pundits agreed, and most of the polls disagreed.

This time, I thought it was a slight, but clear win for Obama. Obama came with a game plan, so did McCain. McCain after a while had to play by Obama’s rules, and on several occasions seemed go get lost in his own discourse. For all that this is John McCain’s format (and that was apparent early on), I think it was to Obama’s advantage that he avoided the town hall meetings earlier in the cycle – certainly I am glad that he ducked having McCain dictate the format for the entire summer season. McCain thought he would own the night, but in fact, Obama held his ground in the town hall format, remained calm, yet forceful, well-reasoned, and presidential.

Round Two I score for Obama. We’ll see what the polls say.
